House Science Committee Hearing on Quantum Technology

(June 9, 2023) On June 7, 2023, the House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology (HSST) held a full committee hearing on Advancing American Leadership in Quantum Technology. The purpose of this hearing was to evaluate the state of quantum research, development, and technology (RD&T) in the United States. The hearing served as an opportunity to review and discuss the first five years of the National Quantum Initiative Act (NQIA), the economic value of quantum science and its applications, the national security importance of developing quantum capabilities, and what policies should be considered in the next five years. The hearing helped inform legislation to reauthorize NQIA programs that expire on September 30, 2023. More information about the hearing, including the hearing’s charter, written statements, and a video recording, is available at https://science.house.gov/2023/6/full-committee-hearing.

Dr. Charles Tahan, Director of the National Quantum Coordination Office and Assistant Director for Quantum Information Science, both at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, served as a witness.
